Sharon Decker's Biography

Sharon Decker (nee Booker) was born in Brewton, Alabama. She has lived on the East and West Coasts of the US (and in between!), as well as abroad. She spent many years as a real estate broker and also as a legislative aide to a state senator.
She began writing in a private group in California and was later introduced to acclaimed writer Steve Yarbrough, who taught at California State, and later at Emerson College, and became her mentor.
“Write what you know” is the old adage, and for Sharon, that is the rural and small town South. Her stories have appeared in Alaska Quarterly, South Carolina Review, South Dakota Review, Cimarron Review, Passages North, Writers’ Forum, and West Branch. They’ve also aired on Valley Public Radio in Fresno, CA.
She lives in Northwest Florida’s Blackwater River State Forest with her husband and their dog.
